Christian Daily | Over 20,000 Christians call on U.S. Congress to stand for Biblical values

A non-partisan Christian group sent an open letter to every member of the U.S. Congress signed by more than 20,000 Americans urging them to take a stand for Biblical values including sanctity of human life, preservation of traditional marriage, and religious liberty.

Earlier this week, My Faith Votes hand-delivered copies of an open letter to Congress which was signed by more than 20,000 Christians across the country. Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, J.D. Greear, and Dr. Alveda King were among those who signed the letter, Christian Broadcasting Network details.

In the letter, the Christians raised concern over the heavy attack targeting their faith and highlighting religious liberty as their “first freedom.” For them, incidents such as the dismissal of a Washington state football coach who prayed on the field is “an affront not only to people of faith but to the very ideals America stands for.”

Towards the end of the letter, the Christians raised the topic of compassion for people in need, saying “a nation is ultimately judged by the way it cares for and lifts up those in need.” They are asking Congress to back policies that seek to uplift people from poverty, fight discrimination, and provide more opportunity for all people.

For those who signed My Faith Votes’ letter, America’s national leaders should protect faith because it makes their country stronger. The letter ends with a prayer for guidance for the members of the Congress so that they may fight for all citizens’ “unalienable rights.”

The open letter from My Faith Votes comes just a week after Christian News reported that 75 technology companies signed an open letter to Congress leaders expressing support for abortion giant Planned Parenthood. These firms conveyed concern over the possibility that the organization would be defunded.

Tumblr’s David Karp, Foursquare’s Dennis Crowley, Reddit’s Alexis Ohanian, Eventbrite’s Julia Hartz, and Betaworks’ John Borthwick were among those who signed the letter expressing support for Planned Parenthood’s work. For them, the organization plays a major role in the recent drop in the number of teen pregnancies.
