Christian Post | Evangelical Leaders Call for ‘Year of Good News’

Two dozen evangelical leaders signed a joint statement calling on Christians to make 2017 the “Year of Good News.” The appeal was made in a letter organized by Harvest Crusades pastor and founder Greg Laurie which was published online on Tuesday. The signatories committed to “make the message of Jesus Christ transcend the monopoly of our media.”

The letter opened by saying: “In a time of fake news, distracting news, divisive news, disorderly news, and, sometimes, depressing news, we — as Christians and as leaders —want to recommit ourselves to making sure that the Good News of Jesus cuts through it all.”

Signatures of famous pastors figured prominently in the manifesto including those of Franklin Graham of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, James Dobson of Family Talk, and author Anne Graham Lotz. “We accept Jesus’ command to proclaim His message, wherever we are, to whomever we are around,” World Net Daily quoted the letter.

The evangelists have recognized the need for a national miracle to heal the political, racial, and cultural divisions in America which is why they committed to preach louder than the nation’s politics. They also challenged pastors to preach the Gospel boldly and pray intentionally for national revival.

They likewise called on Christians everywhere to share the Gospel at every opportunity they can. The letter further declared that the Gospel is the only hope for a nation divided by “distractions” and a “disorienting” culture.

Other signatories named by The Gazette are: Assemblies of God General Supt. George Wood, Southern Baptist president Steve Gaines, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary president Al Mohler, Pastor David Jeremiah, Levi Lusko, Robert Morris, Ronnie Floyd, Skip Heitzig, James MacDonald, Max Lucado, Joel Rosenberg, Randy Alcorn, Eric Metaxas, Samuel Rodrigue and O.S. Hawkins.

The public is invited to add their signatures online.
