News OK | Steve Green will be 2016 Salt & Light Award recipient Oct. 5 in Oklahoma City

Steve Green, president of Hobby Lobby Stores Inc. and Museum of the Bible board chairman, will receive the CBMC Salt & Light Award at the 23rd annual award dinner set for Oct. 4 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, 1700 NE 63.

A reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

The Salt & Light Award is given annually by the Christian Business Men’s Connection of Oklahoma City, a faith-based group known as the CBMC, to honor a man whose life is the personification of the “salt and light” that Christ asked believers to be in Matthew 5:13-16.

Green, of Oklahoma City, was named president of Hobby Lobby, a national crafts store chain, in December 2004. In 2009, the Green family purchased its first biblical artifact.

Today, Green devotes half his time to what has become known as The Green Collection, which is among the world’s newest and largest private collections of rare biblical texts and artifacts.

The collection of more than 40,000 biblical antiquities will eventually become the core of an international, nonsectarian Museum of the Bible, which is being constructed in Washington, D.C., and set to open in 2017.

Green has authored two books, “Faith in America” and “The Bible in America.” He and his wife, Jackie, have been married for more than 30 years. They have one son and five daughters.
