Staffordshire Newsletter | Stafford soroptimists and Women’s Aid hand cash to charity to target human trafficking

SOROPTIMIST International of Stafford and Staffordshire Women’s Aid have each donated £90 to The Dalit Freedom Network.

The £180 will provide a year of education for a vulnerable girl in India.

The Dalit Freedom Network is a Trafficking Prevention and women’s Empowerment Organisation working on behalf of women and children from Dalit, tribal and other poor and marginalised communities in India.

Dalit Freedom Network supports on-the-ground trafficking programmes run by and led by Indian Partners.

Kumar Swany the India Director of Dalit Freedom Network said: “Violence against women and exploitation, such as human trafficking, is, sadly a Worldwide phenomenon.

“We are grateful for this expression of solidarity from those working on the issue in the UK and globally.

“This money will help provide a vulnerable girl with a quality Education in one of our schools so that she can gain skills, knowledge, confidence and dignity which will help to give her opportunities in life and to escape the exploitation and abuse she might otherwise face.

“The girls are also provided with school uniform and essential school materials.”
