The Oklahoman: Catch the Olympic ‘spirit’ with VouVersion Bible app

The Summer Olympics will begin tonight, Friday, Aug. 5 with the Opening Ceremonies in Rio de Janeiro.

The popular free  YouVersion Bible app, created by Edmond-based Life.Church, recently announced a new offering of four Olympics/athletic-themed Bible plans to commemorate the occasion. The plans were developed specifically to help fans of the games connect with God’s Word every day.

These include:

 — The Museum of the Bible’s “The Bible: Impacting the 216 Olympic Games,” a 15-day Bible plan including short video clips, devotionals, and daily Scripture designed to show what the Bible means to many world athletes, including gymnast Shannon Miller, runner Eric Liddell, soccer star Kaká, track star Lolo Jones and others.

— The Fellowship of Christian Athletes’s “The Road to Gold Devotional,” a five-day plan featuring devotionals from Olympic games hopefuls and champions designed to inspire and challenge readers.

— Unpackin’ It Ministries’ “Unpack This … For Fans of the Summer Olympics,” a three-day plan featuring speaker and radio show host Bryce Johnson as he applies a lens of faith to the 2016 Games in Brazil, along with biblical truths designed to challenge, encourage and inspire.

— Athletes in Action’s “Struggle and Triumph: Olympians’ Stories,” a 33-day plan designed to encourage readers who are experiencing their own trials as they read the stories of world-class athletes who persevered through hardship, confident that they would ultimately achieve victory by relying on God.
