And history was made at rockford’s city council meeting last night that recognized the local jewish community. A proclamation delivered during the council meeting… Declaring may as jewish american heritage month. The local jewish community had been invited to last night’s meeting to witness the proclama tion… Executive director of the rockford jewish federation says this is a step towards making their voices heard. “i have actually been very impressed with our mayor and our city for quite some time now and this just re enforce that our mayor and our city really cares about the jewish pope and the fight we have right now against anti semitism”. Representa tives from the combat anti- semitism movement were also in attendance at city council to accept the proclamation. And a local homeless shelter celebrated a very significant milestone… The rockford rescue mission is approaching six decades.. 59 years ago… Ray stewart — a recovered alcoholic from chicago — moved to rockford to set up a mission shelter… Stewart purchased a vacant seed store on kishwaukee street… The first guests were about twenty homeless men today the rockford rescue mission continues to serve people in many ways… Happening today… A treat for all the foodies out there as the popular ‘food truck tuesdays’ is back for the season… The food trucks will begin serving food today at 4 pm at the nicholas conservatory and gardens until 9 pm… Food trucks are spread out across the parking lots, but you can hop on the trolley to take a ride to your favorite food truck at the event… Tuesday stays quiet start with mostly cloudy skies and stronger winds. Dry conditions settle in for the next week or so as sunshine will return tomorrow. Temperatures today will still fall below average as we warm back into the 60’s starting tomorrow.
