Claudia thank you… Your 13 news time is…. — last night – over 150 rockford students received a full tuition scholarship, to further their education… — rockford promise hosted its promising futures event, introducing the new class of promise scholars. 13 wrex’s dillon valencia is in studio this morning, dillon, what are some long term goals that rockford promise has in giving these scholarships? Manny, rockford promise’s overall goal is to have a lot of these scholars go through a local college program and come give back to the community even years after they’ve completed their educational career… In just over seven years, they’ve gone from awarding only five full tuition scholarships, to 153 – being able to accomplish this by partnering with the the cityyof rockford, plus three schools – niu, rockford university, and rock valley college… We are investing in our young people, we want to make rockford the top choice place to live in the region, and getting free college is one way to draw people to this area, — it feels amazing, I mean, iv’e been with rockford promise since 2015 and it just, to see the exponential growth — that we’ve had and the way that everyone has rallied around it — it is a vision come true… Last night — they also celebrated one of the first large rounds of ollege graduates – definteley a full circle moment as current high school graduates watched their dreams come into fruition — as previius recipients walked the stage… Ill send it back over to you 🙂 high school students are invited to take part in northern illinois univvrsity’s food and nutrition science career and college prep program… Beginning this summer. Classes of 2024 and 2025 students must submit an online application by may 15.. The program is funded by u-s department of agriculture grants… So it is free for participants groups will attend one week of summer camp in july on n- i-u’s dekalb campus. And looking ahead to this afternoon.. 12 high school students from harlem high school willl be signing their letters of intent to their future colleges and universities… At the signing event… The 12 students will be recognized for the work they’ve done above and beyond before their college education…. This includes working as teachers and mentors at the paw prints preschool, and interning as student teachers through the high schools education pathway program… And history was made at rockford’s city council meeting last night that recognized the local jewish community. A proclamation delivered during the council meeting… Declaring may as jewish american heritage month. The local jewish community had been invited to last night’s meeting to witness the proclama tion… Executive director of the rockford jewish federation says this is a step towards making their voices heard. “i have actually been very impressed with our mayor and our city for quite some time now and this just re enforce that our mayor and our city really cares about the jewish pope and the fight we have right now against anti semitism”.
