Arkansas Online: Mike Huckabee, Ronnie Floyd join evangelicals meeting Trump

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Springdale pastor Ronnie Floyd were among the leading evangelicals joining a group of hundreds to discuss religious issues with Donald Trump on Tuesday in New York.

Huckabee, who has endorsed Trump, was set to moderate a 90-minute Q&A panel with the candidateTime reported.

Sarah Huckabee, his daughter who works on the Trump campaign, tweeted photos of Trump seated at a round-table discussion and then appearing on stage for the panel with her father.

Floyd, the senior pastor at Cross Church in Springdale and the former president of the Southern Baptist Convention, announced his plans to meet with Trump in a Fox News op-ed published in May.

Floyd has not endorsed Trump, but he wrote that he was willing to meet and talk with the presumptive Republican nominee — as well as Democrat Hillary Clinton — to discuss issues such as religious freedom, abortion and the Supreme Court.

“We will not be there to listen to a speech. We will be there to get to know one another — to talk,” Floyd wrote for Fox News. “The meeting will not be hostile or confrontational.”

A spokesman for Cross Church did not immediately return a request for comment about the meeting.

A full list of attendees for the private meetings was not available, and it was unknown if there were other Arkansans in attendance.
