WASHINGTON D.C. – As the first stop on its upcoming national tour, AMAZING GRACE, the inspirational Broadway musical will be the first production – of any kind – to inaugurate the new, state-of-the-art World Stage Theater at Museum of the Biblein Washington D.C. The production is slated for an eight-week run with opening night scheduled for November 18th 2017.
The World Stage Theater at Museum of the Bible is a world-class, performing arts theater located inside the forthcoming 430,000-square-foot museum. Located just two blocks from the National Mall, the 472-seat venue will showcase a first-of-its-kind, digital mapping system that will transform the theater space into a virtual canvas, surrounding the audience with an environment that enhances what they see on stage.
Tickets go on-sale on today, Tuesday, March 21, 2017 to commemorate the 269th anniversary of the conversion John Newton, the composer of Amazing Grace, from a brutal slave trader to a committed Reformer and Christian who would ultimately pen the “hymn of hymns.”
AMAZING GRACE: The Musical is the first production of the show in North America since its pre-Broadway opening in Chicago and subsequent engagement on Broadway at The Nederlander Theater. The Washington Post proclaimed: “The timing of this sweeping and inspirational new Broadway musical couldn’t be better. The staging is superb, with moments of genuine astonishment. As spectacular as anything on Broadway, AMAZING GRACE tells the story of how the song came to be and elicits widespread gasps and cheering from the audience.” A captivating tale of romance, rebellion and redemption, this radiant production follows one man whose incredible journey ignited a historic wave of change.
