Christian Daily | Christian evangelical leaders lay hands over Trump in Oval Office prayer session

Christian evangelical leaders surrounded U.S. President Donald Trump and laid their hands on his shoulders as they prayed over him at the Oval Office on July 10, as seen in a photo which was circulated online.

In the photo posted by Liberty University’s former senior vice president Johnnie Moore, Trump was seen bending his head in prayer while evangelical leaders prayed over him. Vice President Mike Pence also appeared in the picture with his eyes closed as he joined the prayer circle, CNN detailed.

On July 12, Moore revealed that the president had invited several national faith leaders to a meeting with representatives from the Office of Public Liaison. He shared that since the evangelicals believe in praying for the country’s leaders, they prayed over Trump at the end of the meeting.

“We similarly prayed for President Obama but it’s different with President Trump,” said Moore on Wednesday. “When we are praying for President Trump, we are praying within the context of a real relationship, of true friendship.”

Based on other pictures posted online, Prestonwood Baptist Church pastor Jack Graham and former congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota) were also there during the prayer session.

Like Moore and the other evangelical leaders, former U.S. president Jimmy Carter also believed that people should pray for Trump and for America. In an interview with Juris Graney of the Edmonton Sun, he acknowledged that there were a lot of things that people do not like about the current president, but Carter said Trump was doing his best.

Carter recalled how his favorite high school teacher used to tell them to “cling to principles that never change.” The former U.S. president said the country was going through tough times, but Americans should make the best out of their situation and wish their leader well.

In addition, Carter talked about the importance of his Christian faith in his life. He said he depends on God for guidance whenever he encounters problems or when he needs answers to difficult questions.
