While the news cycle was churning and pundits on both sides of the aisle were blaring their opinions on the Trump administration’s controversial immigration policies, Ivanka Trump was quietly taking action.

Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of President Donald Trump and a senior White House adviser, reportedly donated $50,000 to Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, after seeing a tweet from the congregation’s lead pastor, Jack Graham.

Graham was informing his Twitter followers that Prestonwood’s Hispanic ministry was “working to provide solutions during this terrible immigration crisis,” referring to the “zero tolerance” policy that resulted in children being separated from the adults with whom they illegally entered the United States.

The minor children were temporarily placed in detention centers while their parents were prosecuted for crossing the southern border. The controversial policy was enforced by both the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security.

While Trump has enjoyed robust support from evangelical Christians, his administration faced quite a bit of criticism from the historically friendly demographic over the policy that pulled families apart. The approach was even criticized by Johnnie Moore, the de facto spokesperson for the president’s informal evangelical advisory board.

In a statement to CBN News’ Jenna Browder, Moore said, “We do not support the policy, and the attorney general was wrong to use Scripture as he did to justify it.”

Moore was referring to the fact that, days prior, Attorney General Jeff Sessions referenced Romans 13 — in which the Apostle Paul encourages Christians to submit to governing authorities — as a way to defend the administration’s “zero tolerance” approach toward illegal immigration, and the ensuing border separation crisis.

On Wednesday, Donald Trump signed an executive order reversing the decision to separate underage children from the guardians with whom they crossed the border. He highlighted the importance of having “very strong borders,” but said it’s also important to “keep the families together.”

“I didn’t like the sight or the feeling of families being separated,” he added.

Ivanka Trump took to Twitter on Thursday to praise her father’s decision, noting it’s now “time to focus on swiftly and safely reuniting the families that have been separated.”

In a statement to IJR, Graham said he would address Ivanka Trump’s donation during this weekend’s church services.
