An influential Dallas church led by Pastor Dr. Robert Jeffress, one of President Trump’s earliest and staunchest evangelical supporters, celebrates its 150th anniversary this Sunday.
Both Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick will be in attendance at the event, which includes a celebratory luncheon held at the church’s center stage.
“After 150 years, most churches have either died or are in the process of dying,” observed Jeffress. “But through the power of God, First Dallas is 150 years old and still growing.”
The First Baptist Church of Dallas was founded on July 30, 1868 by three women and eight men. Now a megachurch, it has since exploded to approximately 13,000 members. Jeffress’ radio and TV “Pathway to Victory” sermons have helped spread the gospel worldwide.
Jeffress, a frequent guest on Fox News, led a private Inaugural Day worship service before Trump took the oath of office. He has served as a key participant in the influential evangelical council that has faithfully stood by the president from the day he took office, even when they disagreed with some of his policies.
Trump, in return, has consistently nominated conservative, pro-life judges to the federal bench, and supported religious-liberty causes both at home and abroad.
“For 150 years, First Baptist Church Dallas has preached the Bible and because of that when the winds of adversity and criticism have blown against this congregation,” Jeffress recently stated. “It has not fallen because it has been built on the eternal and unchanging truth of God’s word.”
