One News Now | A cry for unity to restart an ‘awakening’

A key organizer of this year’s National Day of Prayer says the major theme of next week’s event is unity.

Millions are expected to gather across thousands of events in all 50 states on Thursday, May 3, to pray for America.

The observance was first created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry Truman.

President Ronald Reagan signed an amended law designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer.

Ronnie Floyd, president of the National Day of Prayer Task Force, says the theme of “unity” comes from the fact that our country is a divided country.

“And there’s not a politician,” he says, “there’s not a political party, there’s not somebody’s persuasion that can do that. Only God alone can do it.”

Floyd tells OneNewsNow that’s why they are urging Americans to cry out to God for the next “great spiritual awakening” in our country.

“Which is the ultimate need that we have,” he says.

Floyd will be leading the national observance in Washington, D.C. that evening.
