Premier | Steve Chalke and Bishop Angaelos installed as Ecumenical Canons at Southwark Cathedral

The Bishop of Southwark, Rt Rev Christopher Chessun, has appointed six new Ecumenical Canons to Southwark Cathedral.

Among the appointments were Bishop Angaelos of the Coptic Orthodox Church in the UK and Steve Chalke, the founder of Oasis Global.

The group were installed to their new positions at a choral evensong on Sunday.

Bishop Angaelos is renowned for his advocacy work. He is the founder and convener of the Asylum Advocacy Group which works closely in partnership with the All Party Parliamentary Group on International Religious Freedom or Belief.

Steve Chalke serves as the Senior Minister of Oasis Church in Waterloo, central London.

Bishop Christopher said: “I am delighted that these very distinguished church leaders from other denominations have felt able to accept my offer to become Ecumenical Canons of Southwark Cathedral.

“We are privileged to welcome them to the heart of the Diocese of Southwark and we are proud to be associated with their important ministries.”

The other appointments were Rev Anthony Currer, Rt Rev Paul Hendricks, Rev Les Isaac and Rt Rev Apostle Dr Donnett Thomas.
