DALLAS — My Faith Votes sat down Tuesday with Phil Robertson, evangelist, author and businessman (of “Duck Dynasty” fame), for a discussion about the 2018 midterms, the importance of voting and his new book, The Theft of America’s Soul: Blowing the Lid Off the Lies That Are Destroying Our Country, which releases February 2019.
“This particular election is the most important one I’ve seen since I’ve been on the earth,” Robertson said, emphasizing how much is at stake for people of faith this election.
My Faith Votes believes as many as 50 million Christians could sit out the midterm elections, a point to which Robertson declared, “everyone go out and vote.”
Megan West, host of My Faith Votes LIVE, added that My Faith Votes encourages believers to “pray first, think well about the issues and find out about the candidates and their positions” before they vote.
As Christians evaluate their ballot options for Tuesday’s elections, Robertson said his personal “litmus test” to decide who to vote for is to vet each candidate against the Bible. “As a Christian, why in the world would I vote for someone if they’re anti-God, killing their own offspring, for perversion or immorality, or wicked, evil, greedy or depraved.”
Referring to the current climate of political division and cultural disunity, Robertson asked, “How do we get out of this fix we’re in?” He went on to answer his own question: “We exhibit these qualities: love God, love your neighbor,” and exhorted believers to also be known for love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. “We’re going to have to practice what we preach,” he added. “We’ve got to do this 24/7, where we work, where we play.”
Robertson encouraged Christians to pray for the election and for God to put right leaders into office.
