The Gainesville Sun | Letter: Seek, as a nation, guidance from above

According to the website nationaldayofprayer.org, the National Day of Prayer is May 3. The theme is “Pray for America — Unity.” In his article, “3 Prayer Priorities for America for April 2018,” Dr. Ronnie Floyd, president of the National Day of Prayer, shares these prayer needs.

1. “Pray for the leaders of America to come together to provide strategic leadership that will lead to righteous and peaceful living in America.”

2. “Pray for unity in the church of America.”

3. “Pray for every town, city and county in America to have at least one prayer observance on the National Day of Prayer on May 3, 2018, resulting in a mighty move of God.”

It seems almost unbelievable how our country has changed in my 77 years. I remember in the 1940s and 1950s when keys were left in unlocked cars, homes and churches were left unlocked.

It was safe for children to play outside in their yards and ride their bicycles around their neighborhood. Schools were safe. No one was offended by prayer, the name of God or “Merry Christmas” or “Have a blessed Easter.”

Now churches are closing. There is violence in our neighborhoods, our schools, places of business and in our churches. The only thing that will bring about change is for Americans to get down on our knees and pray that America will come back to God.

These words were written several thousand years ago. “If my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
