Border patrol agents are “terrorizing” illegal aliens, and Congress should consider eliminating the agencies, contends Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.
In an interview with BET’s “Black Coffee Live,” the Somalia-born Muslim lawmaker said immigration officials serve “rogue agencies” with “no accountability, no transparency in how they conduct their business,” reported the Gateway Pundit.
“We should be having a conversation about eliminating their existence. Reforming the agencies that deal with our most vulnerable,” Omar said.
“We are continuing to allow for them to terrorize people who are running away from the most horrific circumstances.”
Earlier this week, the president of the National Border Patrol Council responded to similar claims by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., charging the congresswoman with spreading “outrageous, inflammatory and false claims about the dedicated law enforcement officers I represent.”
WND reported Tuesday that after claims by Ocasio-Cortez and others that migrant detainees in El Paso, Texas, were forced to endure inhumane conditions, a Hispanic pastor toured the facility and “saw something drastically different from the stories I’ve been hearing in our national discourse.”
“Even as a veteran of immigration advocacy in the U.S., I was shocked at the misinformation of the crisis at the border,” said Rev. Samuel Rodriguez.
Omar has been in the spotlight since her first days in Congress in January, beginning with a series of anti-Semitic remarks on Twitter that prompted a House resolution condemning hateful speech.
She first came under fire for tweeting in 2012 that “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”
In February, she insinuated in a tweet that politicians in the U.S. were bought by AIPAC, the non-partisan group seeking to foster relations between the U.S. and Israel.
She followed that tweet with another that echoed the anti-Semitic “dual loyalty” trope. Pro-Israel activists, she said, were pushing members of Congress to have “allegiance to a foreign country.”
In April, she told Muslims at a Council on American-Islamic Relations fundraiser that the 9/11 terror attacks amounted to “some people did something.”
In addition, she’s been confronted with charges that she committed immigration fraud by marrying her brother. Omar vehemently denies the claim, and her suppression of records has hindered any official verification. Nevertheless, investigations by conservative media outlets such as Powerline, PJ Media and Alpha News have uncovered evidence that Omar has refused to rebut. She and her office have charged only that it’s a private matter and inquiries from “the right” are merely motivated by “Islamophobia.”
However, last month the Star Tribune of Minneapolis reported investigative documents released by the state agency “have given fresh life to lingering questions about the marital history of Rep. Ilhan Omar and whether she once married a man — possibly her own brother — to skirt immigration laws.”
Along with documenting her illegal filing of tax returns with a man who was not her legal husband, the new documents obtained by the Star Tribune reveal the Omar campaign’s efforts in 2018 to keep the story of her marriage to Elmi out of the media.
WND reported last month a Minnesota state lawmaker is calling for a federal ethics inquiry into the congresswoman.
