DALLAS — The season finale of the hit TLC reality show, “Rattled,” which aired Sept. 11, continues the story of Christian couple Julia and Ryan Sadler, who work together ministering to youth at the First Baptist Church of Dallas where Julia’s father, Dr. Robert Jeffress is the senior pastor. After three miscarriages in one year, the Sadlers become pregnant with triplets, which are delivered by emergency C-section at 30 weeks. After nine weeks in the NICU, and six months in isolation at home as their immature immune systems developed, Julia and Ryan are finally able to introduce the triplets to their church family in person.
The triplets may be out of the woods and free to meet the world, but meeting the world requires the kind of logistics that would make Amazon stand up and take notice. A car trip requires three backup outfits each, 25 diapers, 12 bottles and wipes galore. But for all of the complexities, Julia and Ryan are grateful to be able to go out in public again with the triplets and enjoy simple pleasures like eating in a restaurant as a family with Julia’s parents.
But what the Sadlers are really looking forward to is the dedication of the triplets at church. In baby dedications, parents go in front of the entire church and promise before God to raise their children to know and follow Jesus. Adding to the significance of the day is that so many people at church were praying around the clock for the safety of Julia and the triplets. Julia and Ryan know they owe the healthiness of the triplets to God, the nurses and doctors, and the church members who were faithful to pray for them.
Julia’s father, Pastor Robert Jeffress, offers the prayer of dedication, and as the congregation applauds, he thanks God for the miracle of the triplets who are healthy, safe and sound, and surrounded by the church family that demonstrated such care and concern.
As Julia reflects on the entire experience, she says, “If you would have told me two years ago that I was going to have three miscarriages and premature triplets, bedrest for 50 days, and in the NICU with three newborns when I never even changed a diaper, I would have thought you were crazy.”
As Ryan reflected on Julia’s courage and faithfulness throughout these days, he said, “I’m very proud of how strong she’s been through this whole thing. I’m very proud to be her husband for sure. We’ve experienced so many challenges in the past few months that we’re prepared for pretty much anything that’s ahead.
When asked what’s next now that “Rattled” Season 3 is over, Julia said, “I’m so grateful that we were able to be a part of the show. My greatest blessing from the experience came in the form of the hundreds of private messages I received from women who confided their struggles that allowed me to minister to them through encouragement, prayer and insight. I enjoy using my clinical training, biblical foundation, and sense of humor to bring a fresh perspective to cultural, relational and spiritual topics including eating disorders, infertility, anxiety, depression, and motherhood.”
Julia and Ryan’s first book on praying for big things releases in the Fall of 2019.
