As fires rage across the American West, Centennial Institute documentary on Western Wildfires offers solutions

Aug. 12, 2021

LAKEWOOD, Col. — The Centennial Institute, Colorado Christian University’s public policy think-tank, has released a new mini-documentary, “Wildfires and Wolves: Issues Facing Western America,” from the 2021 Western Conservative Summit that offers viewers insights into the environmental crises Western states are facing and what can be done to prevent or mitigate them.

Raging wildfires in western states have destroyed more than 3 million acres of land this year, and Denver recently earned the notorious distinction of having the worst air quality of any major city in the world because of the smoke from the wildfires.

“For years, the Western Conservative Summit has been presenting solutions to our country’s wildfire problems, which are preventable,” said Jeff Hunt, director of the Centennial Institute. “The federal government owns too much land in the Western United States that it cannot properly manage. The solution is simple: Allow the states and the people who live in western communities to manage the land.”

The mini-documentary features Jennifer Fielder, Alek Skarlatos, Sen. Cedric Hayden (R-OR), Katie Schrock, Kyle Reed and Rep. Perry Will (R-CO, 57th District), who explain the real challenges facing Western lands including wildfires, land use, predatory animals and more.
