WASHINGTON — At Pastor Robert Jeffress’ Celebrate Freedom Concert with Special Guest President Donald Trump, presented by First Baptist Church Dallas, the president of the United States delivered a wide ranging address honoring America’s heroes and also reminding America that in our nation “we worship God, not government.”
“As long as I am president, no one is going to stop you from practicing your faith or from preaching what is in your heart,” said President Trump.
He continued, “Bureaucrats think they can run over your lives, overrule your values, meddle in your faith and tell you what to say and how to pray. But we know that parents, not bureaucrats, know best how to raise their children and create a thriving society. And we know that families and churches, not government officials, know best how to create a strong and loving community. And above all else, we know this: in America, we don’t worship government, we worship God.”
In the address, President Trump adeptly combined patriotism and faith in a way that honored America’s veterans by simultaneously demonstrating what it is about America that they have fought to preserve and defend. The address was met with multiple standing ovations, spontaneous applause and flags being waved in euphoric patriotism.
Referring to Trump’s record evangelical turnout, Jeffress continued, “Because Christians understood that [Donald J.Trump] alone had the leadership skills necessary to reverse the downward death spiral our nation was in.” Pastor Jeffress concluded, “Since that time, I’ve found that people are more excited about President Trump now than they were on Election Day. And it’s easy to understand why: President Trump has not only met but exceeded our every expectation … how grateful we are. We thank God every day that He gave us a leader like President Trump.”
“Not only has God bestowed on us the gift of freedom, he’s also given us the gift of heroes willing to give their lives to defend that freedom,” said the 45th president of the United States. In so doing, he also recognized a number of veterans in the audience including Harry F. Miller who fought at the Battle of the Bulge. Miller lied about his age — he was only 15 when he enlisted — for the privilege of serving his nation.
During his introduction of the president, Pastor Robert Jeffress noted, “In recent years, there have been those who have tried to separate our nation from its spiritual foundation. This has caused many of us, especially Christians, to wonder, ‘is God finished with America?’ Are our best days over? Has God removed his hand of blessing from us?”
Not so, said Pastor Jeffress. “In the midst of that despair came November the eighth, 2016… because it was on that day that God declared that the people — not the pollsters — were going to choose the next president of the United States, and they chose Donald Trump.”
This was a new day, according to Pastor Jeffress, for religious liberty, our veterans, the economy and security of America and the general standing of the United States in the world.
Pastor Robert Jeffress’ Celebrate Freedom Concert with Special Guest President Donald Trump was carried live by Fox News, the Daystar Television Network, via Salem Radio in Boston, Columbus, Detroit, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Omaha, Phoenix, Tampa, Sacramento, San Antonio and San Francisco, via WAVA-FM in the Washington, D.C. metro area and via KCBI-FM in Dallas. Salem and Daystar Television will be repeating the program in conjunction with their July 4programming.
Previously, in anticipation of the evening, Pastor Jeffress noted: “The Kennedy Center, known for presenting the greatest performers and performances from across America and around the world, is the perfect location for an unforgettable patriotic evening that honors our veterans, celebrates our country and proclaims a message of hope … We are thrilled the president of the United States will be joining us, but we are not surprised. In President Donald J. Trump, we have one of the great patriots of our time.”
Pastor Robert Jeffress and the Celebrate Freedom Rally with Special Guest President Donald Trump was the capstone of a weeklong series of events Pastor Jeffress has hosted throughout the nation’s capital, which included speaking at The Jefferson Gathering, an ecumenical worship service for Congress and staff held at the Capitol Wednesday evenings, leading prayer at the Rotunda, leading a tour of Washington D.C. highlighting our country’s Judeo-Christian foundation and visiting a number of our nation’s leaders including Vice President Pence.
“I’m grateful that President Trump has created an atmosphere in which evangelical Christians feel at home once again in our nation’s capital, celebrating our great country and its veterans,” said Pastor Jeffress.
