MERCED, Calif. — Acclaimed Children of the World International Children’s Choir will perform a free concert at 12:50 p.m., Thursday, Mar. 9, at Merced Christian School. The concert is part of the choir’s “Rescue Tour,” a national tour to raise awareness about the challenges faced by millions of orphaned and disadvantaged children around the world.
Through song, dance, spoken word, and creative media, the choir presents the reality of poverty, but also the hope of change through advocacy, investment, and compassion. The choir — which represents a rich and culturally diverse set of backgrounds and experiences — includes children from World Help’s Child Sponsorship Programs in Uganda, Nepal, Honduras, and the Philippines. The children have performed at venues including Focus on the Family, Brooklyn Tabernacle, Disney World, and Shadow Mountain Community Church.
“For almost 17 years, Children of the World has spoken for the 1 billion children worldwide who today live in poverty,” said Vernon Brewer, president and founder of World Help. “Every day, boys and girls struggle with not having enough food; they have no access to an education; worse still, they succumb to illness and even death from preventable diseases. We hope those who attend this wonderful event will not only be blessed by the music and the joy of these inspiring, young lives, but also be moved to do what they can to rescue a child in need.”
