CHICAGO — The Vertical Church Conference is back for 2018 with a 3-day conference for pastors and church leaders to accelerate the building of what they refer to as “vertical churches” — the kind of church “every heart longs for, and what every church can be.” The main conference, a combination of plenary sessions and workshops, will be held October 15-17 at Harvest Bible Chapel’s Rolling Meadows campus. This year, a free add-on to this year’s conference is taking place Thursday, October 18 from 9 a.m. to noon for potential church planters and core groups who want fresh content to ensure a successful launch.
A “Vertical” church is one that truly embraces and pursues God’s glory as the central passion. When this happens, everything else falls into place. This kind of pursuit of God’s glory has never been more needed in an age where many churches have watered down their mission or redefined it to be solely about evangelism or social concern.
“My wife, Kathy, and I have been in pastoral ministry for more than 35 years, and 2018 marks our 30th at Harvest Bible Chapel,” said James MacDonald, senior pastor at Harvest Bible Chapel. “One thing God impressed upon us from the very beginning is the foundational significance of Vertical Ministry — living out our worship, the authority of God’s Word, prayer, and evangelism in ways that bring the most glory to God as our highest priority, and trusting Him to fill the seats. To celebrate this milestone, I’ve invited some friends who share my conviction, and together, we want to bring them to you. We are praying and expectant for three days of window rattling, earth shattering, vertical ministry in our instruction and in our experience together.”
Speakers this year include Matt Chandler, Ravi Zacharias, Eric Mason, Ed Stetzer, Bruce Frank, Christian Barbosu, Charlie Dates, and Kathy MacDonald. Worship artists Sean Curran, Jon and Valerie Guerra, and Paul Baloche will be leading in song throughout the conference, alongside Harvest’s own Vertical Worship.
