EL CAJON, Calif. — On Tuesday evening Oct. 3, Turning Point Ministries and celebrated pastor, Bible teacher, 10-time New York Times bestselling author and nationally syndicated TV and radio host, Dr. David Jeremiah offered an inspirational message of hope to 6,000 at USF Sun Dome Arena in Tampa, Florida. Approximately 200,000 people have already viewed the simulcast of the event through Facebook Live and other outlets. These numbers will continue to increase over the next few days as people view the stream recording and share it on social media.
The message, taken from his newest book, A Life Beyond Amazing: 9 Decisions That Will Transform Your Life Today — which released nationwide on Tuesday — could be viewed as a departure from the themes explored in Dr. Jeremiah’s most recent books.
When asked why he wrote A Life Beyond Amazing during an onstage interview at the rally, Dr. Jeremiah stated, “Last year we released a book called Is This The End? Since you all are here, you know it isn’t.” After pausing for laughter from the audience, Dr. Jeremiah continued, “But as someone said, you can see it from here.”
“You can wonder if there’s hope. You can wonder what to do. You can wonder what’s next and what my role is in all of this. So this year I decided to follow that up with a study of the Scriptures to answer this question: ‘No matter what’s going on in this earth, whether it’s good, bad or indifferent, what kind of person should I be?’ Because I believe that if we’re the right kind of people, it really doesn’t matter what’s going on. We can deal with it because we have the God of heaven who is our helper. I believe that with all my heart.”
“Last year we wrote a book to inform. This year we wrote a book to inspire,” said Jeremiah. “There’s no guilt in this book. It’s about how you can get to where you want to be. One of the reasons I’ve dedicated my life to the Scriptures is because I believe that the Bible is the great change agent in the world. It changes us, and it makes us the kind of people that God wants us to be.”
In A Life Beyond Amazing, Jeremiah draws from the book of Galatians, which details the nine characteristics of the Spirit-filled life. “I decided that I would write a chapter on each of those nine characteristics,” said Jeremiah. “Here’s the interesting thing about the Fruit of the Spirit. Yes, it’s God’s gift to us, but folks, we’ve got to unwrap the gift.”
Asked about what he would say to encourage the victims of the recent hurricanes and the shooting in Las Vegas, Jeremiah responded, “I don’t know if there are any special words that fit, but one thing I do know is this: Whatever is happening in our world, God hasn’t gone to sleep. This didn’t take him by surprise. And in the midst of all these difficult things, somehow God always gets glory to his name. I don’t want to stand here and tell you I know why bad things happen to good people, but I do know we have a good God.”
Reflecting on his own experience as a cancer survivor on two different occasions, Jeremiah continued, “When I went back to church and stood up in the pulpit to preach, I kept thinking to myself, ‘What in the world do I say to them after all of this?’ And God gave me these words, and I think these are words for today: God is enough.”
A Life Beyond Amazing Rally at the USF Sun Dome Arena in Tampa, Florida included worship led by singer, songwriter Charles Billingsley as well as a teaching on self-discipline by Dr. Jeremiah taken from chapter 9 of “A Life Beyond Amazing.”
