LOS ANGELES — Turning Point USA’s national offices join with local Southern California chapters in urgently calling upon the University of California Los Angeles to disallow and disinvite an on-campus conference organized by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) due to that organization’s blatant, overt and consistent acts of anti-Semitism. The SJP’s national conference, an event approved by UCLA school administrators, is currently scheduled for Nov. 16-18, 2018.
The agenda of SJP is to obliterate the only Jewish state, Israel, by incrementally administering campaigns across college campuses, churches, and other establishments with false accusations of human rights violations and misleading comparisons to Nazi Germany. The organization is an avowed proponent for the Boycott, Sanction, Divestment Movement (BDS) against Israel and its products, all of which fall under the State Department’s definition of anti-Semitism.
Among student advocacy groups, SJP is notorious for its violent anti-Semitic rhetoric ranging from the demand for intifada, and comparing Israel to Nazis. National SJP’s website would fall under the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of anti-Semitism as well as Natan Sharansky’s 3 D’s (Demonization, Double Standard, Delegitimization) adopted by the State Department.
According to Title VI of the of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, “No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin (Anti-Semitism included due to the Marcus Act, 2004), be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” If the conference is allowed to persist, UCLA should be held accountable for their negligence to their own policies adopted by the UC Regents and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Given SJP’s track record of egregious anti-Semitic advocacy, SJP’s National Conference will encourage racism, violence, anti-Semitism, and the support of terrorists. The violations of this conference attack the liberty of the pro-Israel and Jewish communities on campus and across the globe. Turning Point USA will NOT condone such discrimination, and thereby strongly and urgently calls on the University of California Los Angeles to abide by their own moral code and administrative standards as a public university, and disavow, disinvite and cancel this hateful event from taking place on its campus.
The following local chapters of Turing Point USA are united in their condemnation of this anti-Semitic event:
Hope Cottam, President, Turning Point USA at California State University – Channel Island
Eric Aldana, President, Turning Point USA at California State University – Long Beach
Sarah Hemphill, President, Turning Point USA at California State University – Northridge
Parker Edwards, President, Turning Point USA at University of California – Los Angeles
Jovan Sandoval, President, Turning Point USA at Long Beach City College
