ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. — Rebecca Friedrichs, a veteran California public school educator, releases the following statement responding to Biden’s nomination of Miguel Cardona for education secretary:
“I’m skeptical about Biden’s nomination of Miguel Cardona to lead the Department of Education. I’m suspicious because teachers union leaders like Lily Eskelen García and Randi Weingarten have given their thumbs-up, and that’s never good for America’s kids. The unions sowed millions into Biden’s campaign, one wonders if Cardona’s nomination is its rotten fruit?
“Cordona cannot possibly understand the needs of America’s teachers either given his scant 3 years in the classroom. In fact, his story represents the exact problem with America’s schools: the so-called ‘experts’ who have little to no actual classroom experience run the show, at the expense of experienced teachers and the kids we labor to serve.
“As a veteran educator who’s devoted my life to protecting America’s founding principles and our littlest citizens, I’m deeply grieved by the ominous plans Biden and the unions have for our country and the control they may soon again wield over levers of power in Washington. The Trump administration — after seeking the input of devoted educators and parents — put our schools back on track to restore honesty, excellence, patriotism, and educational freedom for all. Yet, Biden has pledged to undo Trump’s good work, leaving our kids at the mercy of the union-controlled education-industrial complex. For these reasons I’m distrustful of his nominee for education secretary.”
