LOS ANGELES—Memory Rescue, the latest TV program from 10-time New York Times best-selling author, Dr. Daniel Amen, debuted at #1 on public television, making it the network’s top show in the U.S. The program originally aired on Dec. 3, where Dr. Amen—who has been named “the most popular psychiatrist in America” by the Washington Post—discussed how anyone can improve their memory and even rescue it, even if they feel it’s already headed for trouble.
The special was based off of Dr. Amen’s most recent book, Memory Rescue: Supercharge Your Brain, Reverse Memory Loss, and Remember What Matters Most, released by Tyndale Publishing in November. The renowned neuroscientist reveals how a multi-pronged strategy—including dietary changes, physical and mental exercises, as well as spiritual practices—can improve one’s brain health, enhance memory, and reduce the likelihood of Alzheimer’s and other memory loss–related conditions.
“Psychiatrists are the only medical profession that virtually never look at the organ of the body they diagnose and treat, namely the brain,” says Dr. Amen. “As both a psychiatrist and a neuroscientist, I’ve had the opportunity to scan over 135,000 brains. It represents a treasure trove of real world research and it informs so much of what we discuss in this book. From dementia to more general feelings of fogginess and forgetfulness, wherever you find yourself on the spectrum of brain health, I have good news for you, it is highly probable that we can help turn your memory loss around. Everyone wants a sharp mind, and that’s why, I believe, the public television show has resonated with so many people across the country”
Dr. Amen has developed the mnemonic device of “Bright Minds” to help audiences remember the 11 major risk factors outlined in the book, which contribute to “stealing your mind.” Amen contends that all of these risk factors are either preventable or altogether treatable.
Dr. Amen recently finished his book tour and will continue speaking at conferences and workshops around the country throughout 2018. The special one-hour show, Memory Rescue, is scheduled to continue running on public television networks through the end of the year.
