MELBOURNE, Fla. — In celebration of 25 years of service, Christian Care Ministry, which offers the popular Medi-Share health care sharing program, held its first-ever Day of Sharing, a nationwide initiative to motivate and mobilize people to share their time, talent and treasure to serve others.
The event, held Oct. 6, saw Christian Care Ministry employees from Florida, Colorado, and Illinois along with members from across the nation perform acts of service and sharing in their local communities. According to Michael Gardner, Senior Director of Communication for Christian Care Ministry, “Over 300 people from across the country served more than 14 different community organizations, and over 260 people participated in kickoff events.”
Christian Care Ministry was launched in 1993 to build a community that shared each other’s burdens as the early church did in the book of Acts 2:44–47:
“All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. … They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
As Gardner explained, “From the start, our focus has been to build a community of shared faith and values which can demonstrate to a watching world that Christians already have a compassionate solution to health care — depending on one another to share each other’s medical burdens.”
Medi-Share is helping its members have an impact on the world around them. Gardner continued, “By providing members with substantial savings on their annual health care expenses ($500 per month, on average) we are empowering members to reinvest millions of dollars every month in their families, their churches and their communities. They can save more for the future, get out of debt, launch small businesses, support service organizations, foster and adopt children, help aging parents and struggling children, and invest in their churches and local communities.”
Gardner concluded, “This year’s Day of Sharing was a great success, and we’re looking forward to serving those around us throughout the year and in next year’s Day of Sharing.”
