MELBOURNE, Fla. — Christian Care Ministry welcomed Mike Singletary, former Chicago Bears star and 10-time pro-bowler, to its weekly Friends Sharing Friends gathering, Wednesday, Nov. 1st.
Singletary, a Super Bowl champion, spoke of the importance of family and the level of influence parents can have on their children.
“Family is everything to me,” said Singletary. Speaking of the significant role that fathers have within the family, he said that if fathers would courageously fulfill their calling, “we’d see a lot of the problems solved that we see in our country today.”
Singletary is the father of seven children, and is himself the youngest of 10 children. He shared the story of how doctors advised his mother to have him aborted but she decided to keep him instead. Despite health issues in his childhood, Singletary grew up to become a professional NFL player, winning the Super Bowl in 1984.
After retiring from professional football, Singletary coached in the NFL, working with the Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Rams. He is an ordained minister and author, and has co-authored several books about faith, football and fatherhood.
