BALTIMORE – This Thanksgiving, “Dreamers” are taking the holiday’s opportunity to express gratitude to those who have played a role in their stories of immigrating to America.

Voices of Christian Dreamers, a partner of World Relief, has produced a video featuring several Christian “Dreamers” — individuals who were born outside the U.S. yet were brought to America as children and are under the protection of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The video offers a touching tribute to those who have helped them remain here and achieve their dreams.

Liz, originally from China, said, “I’m grateful for the many people who have supported me in my educational journey, including my high school counselor Mrs. Kay who helped me navigate college options when I couldn’t attend a 4-year university as an undocumented student.” Liz is currently a staff member at World Relief.

“I’m thankful for the many opportunities given to me here in the United States. I’m thankful that I have a safe community around me,” said Ruth, another staff member of World Relief who was born in Mexico.

The video wraps up with a brief highlight of the nations represented by Christian “Dreamers.” It concludes with the words, “Thank you America for being our home.”

These “Dreamers” are many of the people who have benefited from the DACA program. Their ability to remain in the U.S. is at risk with DACA’s expiration quickly approaching.

“World Relief believes Dreamers in many ways represent the future of the church in America,” said Jenny Yang, World Relief’s vice president of advocacy and policy. “They are productive members of society who contribute to their communities in countless ways and as such are of tremendous value to the U.S. We urge Congress to act soon and help resolve their situation.”
