NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In his opening address at the National Religious Broadcasters Proclaim 18 convention, Dr. Ronnie Floyd, president of the National Day of Prayer, called upon the church to lead America back toward national unity by praying for spiritual revival.

Speaking to those in attendance, including Vice President Mike Pence and HUD secretary Dr. Ben Carson, Floyd said that the solution for America’s divisions is spiritual not political.

“The keys to unity in our country are revival in churches and a great awakening in our society,” said Floyd.

Floyd also challenged the Christian community to lead by modeling the type of unity we want to see in America today. “A unified church would hasten the unity of our nation,” Floyd said.

Noting that 2018 marks the 30th anniversary of President Ronald Reagan signing into law legislation unanimously passed by both houses of Congress calling for the observance of a National Day of Prayer on the first Thursday of every May, Floyd called upon Christians to observe this day, whether by hosting a prayer event on that day or participating in one somewhere across this nation.

On The National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 3, “from before the sun rises in Maine all the way to the sun going down in Hawaii, thousands upon thousands of people in thousands upon thousands of gatherings will meet all across this nation to pray for America,” said Floyd.

The sitting president of the National Day of Prayer continued by leading those in attendance in prayer, asking God to “usher in a great awakening across our country.” As he prayed for the vice president in attendance, along with the entire administration, Floyd noted that America needs God more than it ever has before, and he prayed that those in government would have all they need to move the country closer to honoring God and His word.
