[Release] Museum of the Bible to Host One-Night Lecture: ‘C’est La Vie!’ Exploring Vanitas Themes from the Book of Ecclesiastes Through Baroque Art

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Museum of the Bible will present C’est La Vie!, a one-night educational lecture at Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. on March 22, 2018, at 6 p.m.

As part of the one-time event, the lecture will present an overview of the exhibition The Living Dead: Ecclesiastes through Art currently on display at Museum of the Bible. The lecture will examine the famous Bible verse from Ecclesiastes that states, “Vanity of vanities! All is vanity!” The meaning of the verse will be dissected and insights into theme of vanitas and its remarkable impact on art in the 17th century will be emphasized.

In The Living Dead: Ecclesiastes Through Art, visitors are invited to explore ideas and themes from the book of Ecclesiastes through artworks spanning from the 16th to the 18th century. The exhibit features European masterpieces from worldwide museums and collections, including the Galleria Borghese, The National Gallery of Art (Washington, D.C.), the Uffizi, the Rijksmuseum and the Vatican Apostolic Library. 

C’est La Vie! is appropriate for all audiences, ages and knowledge levels, from experts in theology to beginners who are simply curious to learn more about art and the Bible.
