[Release] On Hit TLC Reality Show ‘Rattled:’ Christian Mother of Preemie Triplets Struggles with the Decision to Return to Work

Sep. 4, 2018

DALLAS — Episode eight of the hit TLC reality show, “Rattled,” which aired Aug. 28, continues the story of Christian couple Julia and Ryan Sadler, who work together ministering to youth at the First Baptist Church of Dallas where Julia’s father, Dr. Robert Jeffress is the senior pastor. After three miscarriages in one year, the Sadlers become pregnant with triplets, which are delivered by emergency C-section at 30 weeks. After nine weeks in the NICU, all of the triplets are home, and after four months at home, Julia contemplates returning to work.

In this episode, we find Julia and Ryan adjusting to their new normal with triplets and having a nanny there to help. As the girl’s ministry director at First Baptist Dallas, she loves her job working with 300 teens. But Julia is torn about returning to work. She doesn’t want to miss a minute of time with her children, especially since they are likely the only children she will have but also wants to return to the ministry she feels called to.

Ryan and Julia have offices right next to each other. Ryan has missed having Julia there, and they are both glad to have things to discuss in addition to the triplets. While it feels great to be back at work, Julia is stressed as she tries to catch up with everything she has missed while on hospital bedrest and caring for the triplets in the NICU.

As the episode ends, Julia is teaching the Bible to students again, finding her true self, and taking on her demands one day at a time. As Ryan says, “That’s the confident girl I fell in love with 16 years ago, and our babies would be very proud of her.”

In 2015, “42 percent of mothers were sole or primary breadwinners, bringing in at least half of family earnings. Nearly another one-quarter of mothers—22.4 percent—were co-breadwinners, bringing home from 25 percent to 49 percent of earnings for their families.” All of these mothers must wrestle with the competing demands of parenting, work, spousal and household responsibilities. These demands are once both fulfilling and exhausting, full of stress.

The Sadlers have received hundreds of private messages since the season began, sharing their own stories and asking for insight on how to process miscarriages and keep the faith.

Episode nine of “Rattled” debuts Sept. 4 at 10 p.m. Eastern on TLC.
