DALLAS — Episode seven of the hit TLC reality show, “Rattled,” which aired Aug. 21, continues the story of Christian couple Julia and Ryan Sadler, who work together ministering to youth at the First Baptist Church of Dallas where Julia’s father, Dr. Robert Jeffress is the senior pastor. After three miscarriages in one year, the Sadlers become pregnant with triplets, which are delivered by emergency C-section at 30 weeks. After nine weeks in the NICU, all of the triplets are finally home, yet caring for the triplet infants is all-consuming.
In this episode, the triplets have been home for two weeks. Julia and Ryan are constantly busy, constantly feeling overwhelmed, and yet constantly feel like they can’t get anything done. They need help because Julia will return to work soon and raising triplets is a “100 percent fulltime job.” They can’t put the triplets in day care because their undeveloped immune system couldn’t withstand the flu and all the other bugs children trade when they’re together.
As the children are posed for their first photo session, Julia and Ryan place a picture next to them with a passage of Scripture that sustained them through it all: “God is able to do immeasurably more than anything we can hope to imagine” (Ephesians 3:20). It’s a powerful reminder to the couple of God’s grace and power at work in their lives—not only in the past but going forward as well.
Julia and Ryan decide to hire a nanny, who is a great help, but Julia finds herself wrestling with feelings of inadequacy. She’s concerned that the demands of all of them prevent her from spending quality time with any of them.
In the midst of this, it becomes increasingly clear that the trauma of the past 12 months—miscarriages, high-risk pregnancy, the emotional roller coaster of the NICU — forced Julia to detach emotionally to survive. She knows that it is critical for her to reconnect with her friends, people to whom she can be completely open and cry, and take good care of herself so she can take good care of her children.
As episode seven ends, Julia is reconnecting to friends, preparing to go back to work while fighting against “baby brain” and struggling with her desire to be with the children all the time.
Episode eight of “Rattled” debuts Aug. 28 at 10 p.m. Eastern on TLC.
