LOS ANGELES — After Boy Scouts of America announced that it plans to change its name to Scouts BSA – a move done to promote a decision made last year to admit girls into his program for the first time in its more than 100 year history – the fallout and reaction from both sides of the political spectrum has been charged.
PragerU media personality, Will Witt, who himself is an Eagle Scout, weighed in on the topic with a video he published the day after the Boy Scouts made the controversial announcement. Already the video has been viewed over 11 million times on Facebook alone, making it among the fastest PragerU videos to reach that mark.
In the video Witt makes a few observations about why he’s against allowing girls to join the Boy Scouts. Witt contends that the Boy Scouts have always been about providing boys with the opportunity to focus on building relationships with other boys. When girls are around, Witt believes, boys inevitably get distracted.
“When you add girls to the equation, you are taking away everything that the program is about,” says Witt. “It’s about developing yourself from a boy into a man through other male role models that are there in within the troop…when you have boys who are surrounded by girls, they are more worried about what the girls are thinking about them…”
“While we were initially pleasantly surprised by just how quickly Will’s video hit 12 million views, it’s now abundantly clear the convictions he articulated are deeply resonating across the country,” says PragerU CEO Marissa Streit. “These are concepts that used to be obvious to every American: That boys need other male role models to grow into adulthood as healthy men; that they thrive doing active, engaging activities together; that girls are distracting to boys and vice versa. The popularity of this video demonstrates that the vast majority of Americans are not buying what the identity-politics-obsessed left is selling. As a mother I can tell you, boys and girls are different, and that’s a good thing. Let’s celebrate those differences instead of telling boys and girls they should be the same.”
