[Release] The Faith and Education Coalition of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference Announces New Interim Executive Director

Feb. 27, 2018

SACRAMENTO, Calif. –– The Faith and Education Coalition  (FEC) of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC) – regarded as the representative voice for Hispanic Christians in the United States and throughout the Spanish-speaking diaspora –  congratulates former Executive Director Dr. Andrea Ramirez who transitioned January 2018 to the U.S. Department of Education (Washington, DC). Dr. Ramirez has been named Acting Director of the Center for Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnership for the Department of Education. Ramirez now oversees outreach and engagement with faith leaders and community-based organizations.

I am so grateful for Dr. Ramirez’s years of service with the Faith and Education Coalition of the NHCLC, and for all we accomplished together,” says Dr. Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the NHCLC. “Dr. Ramirez has been a powerful and faithful voice, speaking out on behalf of education equity across the country. She has been an expert bridge builder in the church and with the community, working to ensuring all children have access to high-quality education regardless of race, income or ZIP code. I personally wish her all the best and much continued success.

Dr. Agustin Reyes, an Executive Council member for the NHCLC, has been named Interim Director for the Faith and Education Coalition and Rev. Girien Salazar continues serving as Deputy Director. New initiatives, leadership and partnerships for the Faith and Education Coalition will be announced this spring.

Dr. Carlos Campo, president of Ashland University in Ohio and chair of the Alliance for Education for the NHCLC, and founder of the Faith and Education Coalition, adds, “The NHCLC and the Faith and Education Coalition will deeply miss Dr. Ramirez’s passion and expertise, but we don’t look at this as though we’re losing Dr. Ramirez. Rather, we look at this as a victory for all students who now have a living resource in Washington and as a testament to the effectiveness of our organization. We pray that every single one of our executive directors go on to assume leadership roles in the halls of power on a national level. We wish her great success in this next chapter.
