LOS ANGELES — On Veteran’s Day, The Los Angeles Dream Center partnered with the Justin Turner Foundation and iHeart radio station AM 570 LA Sports for their 12th annual Help-A-Hero Radiothon. They are pleased to announce that in just 7 hours, their on-air fundraiser raised over $250,000 for the Dream Center’s Veterans Program, raising even more money than they did at the previous year’s radiothon.

Justin Turner himself, the third baseman for the LA Dodgers, came in and pledged $25,000. Various local celebrities and other athletes made their way to the studio to take some calls and collect donations. Even Matt Beaty, first baseman and left fielder for the LA Dodgers dropped by to take some calls.Matt Beaty On Call.jpg

Some of the incentives given away for large donations included a “Field of Dreams Package” where donors would get to meet LA Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts, attend a pre-game press conference in the Dodgers dugout, meet n’ greet with Justin Turner, and get suite tickets to a Dodgers game.

“All of us at the Dream Center are overjoyed at the quarter of a $1 million raised to help America’s bravest men and women,” said Dream Center co-founder Matthew Barnett. “But I can’t say I’m too surprised. Whenever the people of Los Angeles are given the opportunity to give, as they were on Monday afternoon for this radio fundraiser, they always overwhelm us with their generosity and their willingness to be a blessing to those that need it. Thanks to everyone for every dollar donated to make life better for our veterans!”

Pastor Matthew.jpgThe goal of this fundraiser was to raise awareness and financial support for the many local veterans in need throughout Los Angeles and around the country. Veterans are often faced with re-acclimating into civilian life without direction. Mental, emotional and physical issues from past service also make life difficult. The Help-A-Hero Radiothon provides a way for listeners to understand their needs and provide a helping hand. All proceeds will directly benefit the LA Dream Center’s Veterans Program, a structured and safe home for the brave. With a community network, counseling and support, free housing and food, and access to educational and vocational resources, the program provides an opportunity for every veteran to work through core issues and achieve long-term growth and success.
