[Release] Vice President Pence joins Jack Graham, Greg Laurie and evangelical leaders for National Day of Prayer service

May. 6, 2020
WASHINGTON – Vice President Mike Pence is joining Jack Graham, Greg Laurie and other evangelical leaders for a National Day of Prayer service on Thursday, May 7 at 4 p.m. PST/7 p.m. EST.

The service, led by Graham and Laurie, will feature other notable guests, such as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. Tim Scott and evangelical leaders Franklin Graham, Jentezen Franklin, Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, Dr. Tony Evans, Robert Morris, Joni Eareckson Tada, Eric Metaxas, Johnnie Moore and more.

Vice President Pence will provide a greeting and his personal reflections on the importance of prayer in our nation.

“For many years, we’ve come together on the National Day of Prayer to lift up our country in prayer,” Dr. Jack Graham said. “Although we can’t gather in our nation’s capital this year due to the pandemic, we have a unique opportunity to come together virtually and exalt the name of God and worship Him in the midst of this crisis. Christian leaders from throughout the country will participate – praying for the advancement of the kingdom and the proclamation of the Gospel as we seek to provide hope to the hurting through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

This year is the 69th consecutive observation of the National Day of Prayer across the nation. Starting with John Hancock in 1775, the National Day of Prayer has been celebrated as a traditional part of the American experience. Our modern observances were established by law by unanimous approval by Congress and signed by President Truman in 1952. That law was modified in 1988 by Congress and signed by President Reagan, designating the first Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer.

“Our nation needs prayer now more than ever, and so it is fitting that we gather on this day to remind us that we should seek the almighty God every day in prayer,” said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The National Day of Prayer service will be live streamed Thursday, May 7 at 4 p.m. PST/7 p.m. EST on Prestonwood.org/NDP and the Harvest Facebook page.
