FOREST, Va. – Christian humanitarian organization World Help is responding to the emergency needs of the victims of the 7.3 magnitude earthquake near the Iran-Iraq border. The earthquake, the strongest recorded in the region, is the deadliest of 2017, claiming over 500 lives, injuring thousands of Iraqis and Iranians and leaving approximately 70,000 people homeless.
World Help is working with local partners to deliver essential items, such as food, hygiene kits and blankets, to survivors and victims. The organization is concentrating its response on helping people who were already displaced from their homes due to conflict in the region.
“To many families who’ve experienced the horrors of terrorists and war, this earthquake was a flashback to the most terrifying days they’ve ever lived through. Some even thought the shaking was due to bombs falling again around them,” said Vernon Brewer, World Help’s founder and president. “The earthquake has shaken any sense of security and normalcy Iraqis had begun to feel as ISIS is driven out of their towns and villages.”
“World Help is working to deliver immediate help to those in most need, especially those who might not have strong networks of support during this time of crisis. We cannot abandon them in their time of need,” Brewer said.
