[Statement] Ahead of His Address for The King Center, Pastor Jentezen Franklin Says ‘We Need the Heart of Martin Luther King, Jr. in America Again’

Jan. 17, 2019

GAINESVILLE, Ga.  —  Pastor Jentezen Franklin, scheduled to deliver an address at the Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Commemorative Service for the King Center at Ebenezer Baptist Church, issues the following statement in advance of this Monday’s commemoration:

“Few men have had the lasting impact that Martin Luther King, Jr. has had on America. He helped change the way we think, passionately articulating the need to see all of God’s children as equal and precious in his sight. He taught us how to judge character, not skin color. He longed to unite us. He dreamed of one, undivided America. He fiercely confronted injustice, and it cost him his life.

This past Tuesday would have been King’s 90th birthday. I often think of what it would be like if he were still with us. Not only do we need the memory and the words of Martin Luther King Jr., we need the heart of Martin Luther King Jr. in America again. America needs more men and women just like him; people willing to step into the arena and speak boldly for righteousness and justice no matter the cost.

The barriers we’ve broken through are no doubt due to his persistence. King ushered in a seismic shift within our culture. My prayer for America, as we honor the legacy of this courageous man, is that others will rise up and be voices of unity and justice.”

Pastor Jentezen Franklin will be paying tribute to the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA on January 21, 2019. For more information on The King Center’s schedule for this special day, click here
