CHICAGO — Multiple polls in recent months have indicated black support for President Trump is on the rise. Earlier this month, an NAACP poll published on Aug. 7 put the president’s approval among blacks at 21 percent, while a Pew Research Center poll released in June put the number much lower at 14 percent but still above historic averages. In fact, no GOP presidential candidate has received more than 12 percent of the black vote — a mark set by Bob Dole in the 1996 presidential election. This past week, Rasmussen’s most recent numbers surpassed all previous polling data, indicating President Trump has reached an astounding 36 percent support among African Americans.Turning Point USA founder and president, Charlie Kirk, issues the following statement commending the work of Turning Point USA, specifically Candace Owens’ advocacy work, and looks ahead to the organization’s upcoming Young Black Leadership Summit:
“In any other era of American politics, with any other president, news that black support for a Republican president had reached 36 percent would be dominating headlines and spurring a very important national conversation for weeks if not months, especially in an election year. True to form, instead of acknowledging this growing trend, the mainstream news media has attempted to downplay and debunk it. However, if the recent Rasmussen poll is even half true, the Democratic party is in serious trouble, and they ignore these warning signs at their own peril.
“TPUSA’s own Candace Owens deserves a tremendous amount of credit as she has been out front working to educate the black community that there is another political option available to them. After all, it’s a conservative president and a conservative Congress that are responsible for the lowest black unemployment rate of all-time and a 400 percent increase in black-owned small business startups. Turning Point USA is the only conservative organization with a sustained, staffed, funded and strategic black outreach machine. Mark your calendars: October 25-27 we hold the inaugural, first of its kind Young Black Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. with a HUGE guest speaker. More coming soon. This is only the beginning.”
