COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Dr. James Dobson and Dr. Tim Clinton of the James Dobson Family Institute (JDFI) issue the following joint statement following the Tuesday, June 26 U.S. Supreme Court Ruling to uphold the petitioners’ grievance in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates v. Becerra:
“The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the First Amendment rights of pro-life pregnancy centers in California is a victory for unborn children, for Christians and people of faith, and for every American who enjoys the freedom of expression. This ruling simultaneously provides a critical check on an increasingly pervasive trend of governmental compelled speech.
“As the court noted in overturning The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals prior decision, our Constitution does not differentiate speech based upon whether or not it is professional in nature. Speech is simply speech, in all its forums, mediums and circumstances. Speech is also the essential element underlying every American Christian’s freedom of religious expression and every ministry’s ability to preach the Gospel without fear of punitive governmental oversight – and it therefore must be protected at all cost. Thankfully today’s ruling upholds this most precious and fundamental human right and we enthusiastically applaud the court’s decision.”
