[Statement] Dr. James Dobson Issues Statement In Celebration of Independence Day Holiday

Jul. 3, 2017

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — In honor of Independence Day, Dr. James Dobson issues the following statement:

“Every year, we celebrate July 4th with fireworks, parades, barbecues and many other traditions. This year, in the midst of one of the most divided and tumultuous political seasons in the history of our nation, my prayer is that every single one of us who calls this land our home, will take pause to remember our inheritance.

“From the beginning, ours has been a nation brimming with optimism and potential. The Founding Fathers, seizing upon providence and a very extraordinary set of ideals – ideals that continue to reverberate the world over – risked their lives and livelihoods in the pursuit of freedom. This is a theme so deeply connected to our Christian faith that Scripture even tells us that ‘it was for freedom that Christ set us free.’ (Galatians 5:1) And here we are nearly 250 years later, as Americans still free to ‘reap what we did not work for.’ (John 4:38)

“But as Ronald Reagan once said, ‘Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.’ This grand experiment that is a free, democratic republic only works if it is respected, protected and then finally, passed on to our children. Raising our families in freedom is a gift of God so many countless millions and even billions throughout the ages have yearned for but never tasted.

“This Independence Day let us not take America for granted and instead remember how rare, how valuable and how precious our inheritance truly is. May we stand ready to defend our freedom; may we instill these principles in our children and grandchildren; and may we always gives thanks to God, who in his goodness, saw fit to make us one nation, under God with liberty and justice for all.”
