COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and the subsequent devastation and flooding in Houston, TX, Dr. James Dobson issues the following statement:
“Our hearts go out to the people of Texas and especially to the residents of Houston and the surrounding area as they cope with the extensive flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.
“Now is the time for all of us to pray for the safety and security of all those directly affected by this storm. Beyond the urgent needs of food and shelter, it will take years for the region to fully recover, and so we must also put action behind our prayers. I encourage everyone who can, to donate to two outstanding humanitarian relief organizations – Samaritan’s Purse, led by Franklin Graham, or The American Red Cross. For those of us living in other parts of the country, these organizations can be our hands and feet of service on the ground.
I also want to commend the actions taken by Gov. Abbott and President Trump for swiftly dispatching all available resources at both the state and federal levels, as well as the heroic efforts of emergency personnel and the National Guard as they work to rescue and comfort those stranded and displaced by the flooding.
“Finally, my prayer is that we as a nation would not politicize this crisis in any way. That will not help those who are suffering. Unity is our greatest strength in times of trial so let us come together to support and serve the people of Texas.”

Dr. James Dobson is a celebrated psychologist, Christian leader, and Founder and President of Family Talk, a nonprofit organization that produces his radio program, “Dr. James Dobson’s Family Talk.” He is the author of more than 30 books dedicated to the preservation of the family. Dr. Dobson served as an associate clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Southern California School of Medicine for 14 years and on the attending staff of Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles for 17 years in the divisions of Child Development and Medical Genetics.
