PLANO, Texas — Dr. Jack Graham, pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church, issues the following statement in support of the FIRST STEP Act, a prison reform bill that was endorsed Wednesday by President Trump:
“If you could put the compassion of the Christian faith into a congressional bill, it would probably look like the FIRST STEP Act.
“The FIRST STEP Act does for thousands of Americans who have made mistakes in life what Jesus came to do for all of us: it offers a second chance. Jesus himself said he came for those who are sick, not healthy — he came for sinners, not the righteous. Indeed: mercy, forgiveness and grace are etched on the first page of every Christian’s story. As a follower of Jesus, I cannot but support wholeheartedly any effort that gives a chance of redemption to current and former inmates, and I join President Trump in calling Congress to pass this important bill.”
