[Statement] My Faith Votes Issues Statement Applauding New Conscience and Religious Freedom Division at HHS

Jan. 18, 2018

DALLAS — Jason Yates, CEO of My Faith Votes, issues the following statement applauding the creation of the new Conscience and Religious Freedom Division at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services:

“The new Conscience and Religious Freedom Division at HHS has been a long time coming. Even though the Bill of Rights already guarantees that the personal faith of every American cannot be forced to be a private faith, we’ve seen far too many instances of those centuries-old protections being violated. We thank the Trump administration for standing up for people of faith across the country.

“The wall of separation between church and state was meant to protect faith from government, not the other way around. No nurse or doctor should ever have to choose between caring for his patients and muzzling his deeply held religious convictions. This new HHS division will help ensure that people of faith should not have to fear being being censured or losing a job because of their beliefs.”
