[Statement] My Faith Votes Praises President Trump for Working on Behalf of Christians in First 100 Days, Calls Upon Him to Fulfill Promise to Repeal Johnson Amendment

Apr. 27, 2017

DALLAS — My Faith Votes CEO Jason Yates releases the following statement commending President Trump for listening to the concerns of Christians in America and working on their behalf in his first 100 days in office, and further calls upon him to fulfill his promise to repeal the Johnson Amendment:

“Since Inauguration Day, the President has indeed stood by many of the campaign promises he made to American Christians: he has consistently defended the life of the unborn in policy and word; ensured the appointment of a judge to the Supreme Court who will interpret our laws as our Founders intended; supported the institution of the family in American society; rekindled America’s friendship with Israel, our ally in the Middle East; and advocated for persecuted Christians and religious minorities internationally.

“Now My Faith Votes calls on him to immediately repeal the Johnson Amendment—as he said he would in every meeting he’s had with Christians and at the National Prayer Breakfast—and return to pastors and non-profits their constitutional right to speak freely and without fear. Today, this is more important and more urgent than ever before. No American should be intimidated into silence by his own government.”

My Faith Votes—whose founding honorary national chairman was Dr. Ben Carson—is a non-partisan movement focused on motivating Christians in America to participate in local and national elections and be active members of society. By partnering with local churches, pastors and national faith leaders, My Faith Votes mobilizes and resources Christians to lead the conversation on the place of faith in culture and politics. In the 2016 election, My Faith Votes was largely credited with activating a sizable percentage of the 25 million Evangelicals who were registered to vote in previous elections but had chosen not to, prompting a record turnout by Evangelicals.
