[Statement] My Faith Votes: President Trump’s Call to National Unity Is ‘Welcome and Needed’

Feb. 1, 2018

DALLAS — Jason Yates, CEO of My Faith Votes, issues the following statement in reaction to President Trump’s first State of the Union speech:

“Americans have come to expect little more than dysfunction and disagreement out of Washington D.C., so much so that the rare moments of bipartisan accomplishments don’t even break through the political bickering. That’s why President Trump’s appeal last night for a new era of national unity is welcome and needed.

“Let us disagree on details and ideology, but let us never be pushed to the brink of hatred and incivility. There are important issues waiting to be solved by our elected officials, but there is no reason Americans cannot expect unity and decency to mark the journey toward progress. As the president said last night, ‘As long as we have confidence in our values, faith in our citizens, and trust in our God, we will not fail.’”
