DALLAS — My Faith Votes CEO Jason Yates releases the following statement reacting to Vice President Mike Pence’s remarks at the Catholic National Prayer Breakfast:
“Slowly but surely, America is becoming once again a nation of life and religious freedom. This is largely due to the initiative people of faith have been encouraged to take under the new administration. Vice President Pence affirmed this at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast when he said, ‘President Trump stands for the religious liberty of every American and the right of our people of faith to live out your convictions in the public square.’
“Our president and vice president have extended an unprecedented open invitation to Christians to practice their faith publicly and without fear. It is up to us now to seize this invitation and to make our voices heard in our communities. Every election, at every level, has a consequence, and if we want to see America thrive and succeed, Christians cannot take a passive role in this process.”
My Faith Votes—whose founding honorary national chairman was Dr. Ben Carson—is a non-partisan movement focused on motivating Christians in America to participate in local and national elections and be active members of society. By partnering with local churches, pastors and national faith leaders, My Faith Votes mobilizes and resources Christians to lead the conversation on the place of faith in culture and politics. In the 2016 election, My Faith Votes was largely credited with activating a sizable percentage of the 25 million Evangelicals who were registered to vote in previous elections but had chosen not to, prompting a record turnout by Evangelicals.
