Donald Trump hasn’t lost the support of evangelical Christians, despite the latest controversy that’s caused a few of the GOP establishment to desert him.
Dr. James Dobson, PhD, noted Christian author and associate of Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr., made a statement to The Washington Post condemning the statements Trump made in 2005 that were caught on video and recently released, but reiterating his support for the candidate.
“The comments Mr. Trump made 11 years ago were deplorable and I condemn them entirely. I also find Hillary Clinton’s support of partial birth abortion criminal and her opinion of evangelicals to be bigoted. There really is only one difference between the two. Mr. Trump promises to support religious liberty and the dignity of the unborn. Mrs. Clinton promises she will not.”
Trump’s running mate Gov. Mike Pence appeared on “Dr. James Dobson’s Family Talk” program, where he said Trump would protect religious freedom as president.
“The First Amendment is very clear: ‘Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,'” he said.
“Donald Trump and I truly believe that ensuring that we have people appointed to the Supreme Court who will uphold the Constitution and respect the God-given liberties that are enshrined are very much on the ballot,” he added.
