ORANGE COUNTY — Rebecca Friedrichs, founder of For Kids & Country and 28-year public-school teacher, issues the following statement responding to a New Business Item approved during the NEA’s representative assembly last week officially signaling the union’s support of abortion:
“For decades, the National Education Association (NEA) has deceitfully used teachers’ dues money — behind our backs and against our wills — to push political agendas most teachers abhor — like abortion up to the moment of birth and secret abortions for students at any age without the knowledge or consent of their parents. NEA’s 2019 adopted New Business Items (NBIs) reveal what savvy teachers have known for decades: state and national teachers’ unions are essentially the political action committee of the far-Left.
“For example, adopted NBI 56 reads, ‘The NEA vigorously opposes all attacks on the right to choose and stands on the fundamental right to abortion under Roe v. Wade.’ It adds: ‘The most misogynistic forces, under Trump, want to abolish the gains of the women’s right [sic] movement.’
“As a conservative teacher, I am appalled that the NEA has the audacity to call me and teachers like me ‘the most misogynistic forces.’ On one thing we agree — female leadership should be protected — but not at the cost of another’s life. I am pro-woman and I am pro-life. How dare the NEA assert the two are mutually exclusive. The ratification of NBI 56, and others like it, reveals their arrogance — NEA assumes all teachers agree with their radical agenda. WE DO NOT.
“NEA: Though you’ve been permitted to bully us and force us to fund your divisive agenda for 50 years, we’ve been liberated from your forced unionism. Teachers across America are rising up. NEA beware!”
